"We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment." Jim Rohn
This was not said in the movie, but it is a quote that was shared on Twitter today. It reflects the message I took from viewing the movie Processed People. Take care of yourself now, with discipline, or regret it later, with illness.
Wow - what a kicker. This movie is excellent. If you eat on a regular basis (as in once or more a day) fast food or other processed food (who doesn't?) you must see this movie because it explains how the increased intake of processed foods over the last 60 years has caused us to become sicker and fatter as a nation.
The movie is a whopping 40 minutes long which disappointed me. But I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone hearing about this topic for the first time and figured it would be lucky to get that person to watch 40 minutes of health experts slamming their food.
Then I went to the Special Features part of the DVD and there was 2 hours and 45 minutes of extensive interviews with each of the experts! What a freakin' bonus!! This is the part for junkies like me. Not all the experts agree what constitutes "the perfect diet" but that is good, because we have a variety of healthy dietary approaches from which to choose to align with our ethical, religious, biological, cultural, and lifestyle structures.
What the experts did agree upon is the monetary incentive for the food and drug industries to keep people ignorant about food and medicine and therefore sick. There is no money to be made off of healthy people. Healthy people generally buy fewer processed and packaged foods, generally eat out less (certainly not at fast food restaurants), generally go to the doctor less and generally use less medication and need less insurance.
The best way to beat the system is to be healthy! And why, you ask, would you want to beat the system? Simple because it does not want what's best for you. It wants what's best for it = your money!
You can overcome your chronic disease and/or prevent creating chronic disease. While some conditions may not be able to be totally reversed, they can certainly be improved with smarter dietary choices.
Order the DVD here. By the way, there is no incentive for me to recommend the movies and books that I do. Full disclosure here: I don't get paid for this. Just like I don't accept advertising on my blog. I recommend to you products and services that I have personally purchased and experienced. A while back I had the Barnes & Noble book referral deal going, but I've even taken that off. I present myself as an curious individual who seeks health and shares my discoveries with you without the incentive of profiting off you because I want to you be able to believe what I write.
Yes, I am affiliated with the Young Living company because I believe so strongly in therapeutic essential oils as raw botanical medicine and I can't find them in quality or variety any where else. The Young Living supplements are excellent choices but I use and recommend very little of them now because the more I learn about nutrition, the more I focus on just food. If I were to get ill, I would bolster my immunity with YL supplements, but I choose to maintain health with my food and essential oils. Supplements - even the best - are still processed. This blog has evolved with my health and my topics and recommendations reflect that.
When I was transitioning into a more raw lifestyle I did use many of the supplements from Young Living, but I've transitioned and I'm done with those for now. My lack of recommendation does not mean that I don't think they are a great choice for you if you need them. It's just an option that I do not personally need and am not focused on now. Remember, this blog is about "how one healthy girl gets healthier and inspires others to do the same." We are all in different places along our journeys.
My goal is to spread the word of health and help change the world of wellness. I touch people with massage, I share the power of knowledge through my blog and I hope to help make finding holistic medicine and alternative therapies easier to find on my directory. There's some money to be made through massage and one day through the directory and that's wonderful, but my heart is all about you getting healthier and spreading the word. I want you to be free to enjoy your life to the fullest. Therein lies my joy. This is what drives me to write day after day and make absolutely no monetary profit off my musings. Hearing your success stories is divine compensation!
Now go buy the DVD...it's a free & clear recommendation!

Hi Carla:
I am 43 years old and have metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance) as well as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I'm also BiPolar and on medication. I have tried so many "diets", I hate that word by the way, and none of them work. Could you suggest anything raw and easy? I love fruit, fish, vegetables and nuts. But I don't know how to plan a menu based on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kristin~ The topic is too lengthy to provide you all the details here, but I would look into the vegan or raw diet (ie: lifestyle) for your needs. A good place to start for resources and information is http://www.veganoutreach.org/guide/. I'm not a fan (nutritional reasons) of tofu and soy milk, so I would use as little as possible, but use other soy products such as organic, whole soy beans, tempeh, miso and natto.
There's a whole world waiting for you! Good luck to you and with your improved health. xo-C.

I know you are affiliated with Young Living. I am not and get my oils from different source. Bbut what is more important is that we eat more natural things and less man made things.
Organic essential oils are handy items to have. They can help with a variety of things, both medically and emotionally. Organic essential oils are natures way to treat and help a lot of different ailments and infections.
Healthy natural eating habits will benefit our lives in every aspect.
